Equivalence Assessment Procedure

(also called validation of educational performance)

Legal Basis
If adults possess competences which are required for a particular job title, the law allows that they demonstrate these abilities by «taking a comprehensive examination, a combination of partial examinations or other federally recognized qualification procedures», to give proof of their competences. It is then possible to have vocational or non-vocational experiences accredited and thus to obtain a federally recognized qualification. (see vocational education law BBG 13.12.2002 effective 1.1.2004, Article 33)

The equivalence assessment procedure is one of such federally recognized qualification processes. Who can apply for an equivalence assessment? If you have gained specific skills or competences due to personal education / training, self-study and own experiences which are compatible with the competence profile of one or more modules of the Train the Trainer modulare system, you may be eligible to apply to the Quality Assurance Committee for an equivalence assessment procedure (EAP), version I or II.

Example
For 8 years Mrs. Eicher has been working an 80% work quota as in-company instructor in the computer science field. In addition, she has been teaching computer science introductory courses for the past year at two major adult education institutions. A client now wishes for Mrs. Eicher to gain the SVEB certificate (level 1) as proof of her andragogical competence. For the time being, Mrs. Eicher does not intend to take further module qualification classes for her computer science teaching. In her opinion, her andragogical competence seems sufficient. Because of her many years of practical experience as a teacher, the intensive self-study of relevant literature and by regularly attending half-day workshops she is certain that she has the necessary skills to be able to qualify for the SVEB certificate. She therefore would like to be exempted from taking module 1 classes and rather opt for the possibility of an equivalence assessment.
